Haywards Heath Golf Club
The Junior Section at Haywards Heath Golf Club forms a vibrant, active and enthusiastic division of the Club. It is made up of over 70 boys and girls and is well led by Junior Captain, Charlie Wallbank. Both sections are ably organised by Club member Christine Kernohan. Her role is to provide a real source of encouragement and participation to the Juniors, helping them to develop their golfing skills, in conjunction with the Professional Coaching staff - at the same time fostering a sense of responsibility towards the Club and the course, as well as promoting their overall understanding of the game, which is renowned for fostering integrity and good sportsmanship in those who play.
The organisers provide a structured programme of golf, principally during the school holidays. The Junior competitions are published in the Club Diary. In addition, summer knockouts and eclectic competitions are arranged. The organisers also liaise with the County organisation and facilitate participation in County competitions and Open competitions at other clubs. Juniors with a handicap of 16 or better can participate in the Club's adult medal competitions and summer knockouts.
The current standard of golf achieved by the Club's Junior Section is very impressive. Most have a handicap with several playing off a single figure. Many of the Juniors feature prominently in the adult competitions and are also included in the County Squads in their respective age groups.
In recognition of the importance of Junior golf to the Club's future the Professionals offer a range of training programmes for Juniors. The results of this excellent tuition speak for themselves.
The Club welcomes new Junior members, from a young age. They are guided through the nationally recognised Junior passport programme which prepares them to be a responsible member of the Club. Their playing skills are honed in the Junior Clinics. Held weekly, the group training sessions for young golfers are very popular.
Any Junior wishing to become a member should contact the Club Manager''s Office on 01444 414457 - option 5.
A comprehensive Junior Welfare and Child Protection Policy suitable to the needs of the Club has been created and approved by the Management Committee. A copy of this document is available for reference in the Club Manager's office. CLICK HERE to download a copy.
The aim of the policy is to promote good practice, providing children and young people with appropriate safety and protection whilst in the care of Haywards Heath Golf Club, allowing all staff and volunteers to make informed and confident responses to specific child protection issues.
